72 touches, 9 duels won, 7 tackles: Manchester United star produces all-action display vs Newcastle

Manchester United ace Casemiro produces all-action display against Newcastle

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro produced an all-action display in our 0-0 draw against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old was handed his second successive Premier League start, but the former Real Madrid ace was partnered in midfield with Fred instead of Christian Eriksen.

The Danish playmaker, who has started every Premier League game for the Red Devils since joining the club on a free transfer, missed today’s goalless draw through illness.

It was an all-Brazilian affair in midfield as Fred and Casemiro went up against their fellow countrymen Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

United desperately missed the guile and creativity that Eriksen brings from deep, but Casemiro produced a moment of magic that even the Scandinavian would have been proud of.

In the dying seconds, the Brazilian produced an inch-perfect outside of the boot cross which Marcus Rashford headed agonisingly wide.

That was the only chance that Casemiro created all game, but it was arguably the chance of the match for Rashford, and it all came about via moment of genius from the former Los Blancos man.

The 30-year-old also picked up a yellow card for a hefty challenge on Ryan Fraser after winning a crunching tackle on compatriot Joelinton just seconds earlier.

United’s number 18 finished the match with 72 touches and 80% pass accuracy.

The 64-time Brazil international made more tackles (7) than any other player from either side, according to WhoScored.

Casemiro won nine duels, as well as registering one tackle, one interception and blocking one shot, reports SofaScore.

With Scott McTominay back available for Wednesday’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur after serving his one-game ban, Casemiro will no doubt be targeting his third successive Premier League game versus Antonio Conte’s side.
